STEMroots is a student-led nonprofit bringing free, hands-on STEM workshops to schools across Canada, sparking curiosity in the next generation of thinkers, tinkerers, and trailblazers.
At STEMroots, we believe STEM is best taught through showing, not telling.
Too often, STEM education revolves around memorizing facts instead of discovering why they matter. It's no surprise that fewer young people are developing a genuine interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
That's the problem we're here to solve.
Our mission is to make STEM engaging, accessible, and genuinely exciting through hands-on workshops that spark curiosity, encourage questions, and focus on critical thinking rather than memorization.
Since launching in 2025, we've delivered over 50 free workshops at Montessori schools, public schools, and high schools across Canada.
What began as an idea between three motivated high school students has quickly grown into a trusted nonprofit delivering interactive STEM programs in fields ranging from chemistry and biology to robotics and engineering.
So how much does it cost to bring a STEMroots workshop to YOUR school?
0$. Non-negotiable. Higher-quality STEM education is key to building a better future, and we believe that future should never be locked behind a paywall.
Never stop experimenting!

Make STEM feel like play.
Every lesson pairs a short, approachable concept with an experiment kids can touch, break, and rebuild, because that's how real understanding takes root.
Bridging the STEM accessibility gap
Free workshops, a student-first teaching style, and experienced teachers is our way of fighting the decline in STEM interest. We bring the sessions directly to partner schools - we come to you, no transportation needed!

Recap
Our 2026 spring season, in review
Jan – Jun 2026
Six months, dozens of classrooms, and a lot of glue: here's what STEMroots got up to from January through June.

We’ve teamed up with Venn, the student-org connector, helping more schools and students discover our workshops.
Become a chapter leader.
As a STEMroots chapter leader, you will take on the role of teaching hands-on interactive STEM lessons to youth. You will run provided workshops, which include both a lesson and experiment section.
Your responsibilities
Teach workshops in an engaging and thoughtful manner
Be respectful, polite, and professional
Provide materials from the material guide (if you need assistance or support with this, we're happy to help out)
Pass an initial interview
Our responsibilities
Connect you with the place you will teach
Provide the lesson plan and structure
Provide volunteer hours for your services
Assist with any inquiries, concerns, or issues
Handle all backend work: paperwork, legal matters, contracts, and interpersonal communications
Three disciplines. Nine ways to get your hands dirty.
All STEMroots lessons have an informational presentation mixed with a hands-on experiment. We have a variety of premade lessons, but we're also happy to design custom lessons to match your curriculum: one-off afternoons or multi-week programs.
Reactions, experiments, and the kind of plant biology that makes celery turn blue.
Chemical ReactionsFizz, foam, and colour changes: watch everyday ingredients transform before your eyes.
Introduction to PhysicsForces, motion, and gravity, explored through experiments you can feel.
Biology and Plant AnatomyDig into how living things grow, drink, and breathe.
Three lessons, as they actually happen.

Science
Balloon science: a reaction you can watch happen

The question
Where does the gas come from?
In the room
Baking soda meets vinegar inside the bottle and the balloon does the rest: students watch a gas get made in real time, then trace it back to the reaction on the lesson slides.
What sticks
A reaction makes something new, and you can prove it if you set the experiment up to catch the evidence.
From the lesson screen to real wires and bulbs, students trace how electricity moves, then build working circuits of their own with copper tape, a coin battery, and an LED.
What sticks
Wires, a power source, a load. Students leave spotting all three in the everyday machines around them.
Toothpicks, marshmallows, and one challenge: build the tallest tower that stands on its own. Teams prototype, test, watch it wobble, and improve the design.
What sticks
Strong shapes and a wide base beat height alone. Structural engineering, snack edition.

Students from elementary through high school. Since 2025 we have run more than 50 workshops at Montessori schools, public schools, and high schools across Canada, and we’re happy to tailor a lesson to your grade or curriculum.
Every lesson pairs a short presentation with a hands-on experiment. Pick from nine ready-made lessons across science, engineering, and technology, or ask us to design a custom lesson for your curriculum: a single afternoon or a multi-week program.
Wherever we have a chapter. Use the map to find the one nearest you, and if there is none yet, new chapters open every term. We come to your school, so there is no transportation to arrange.
